Abstract：Reasonable layout of open space is not only favorable to visitors as an attraction, but also provides spatial efficiency in functional service. With the cases of Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Midtown, this paper carries out behavioral research to study the social activities characteristics and studies the feelings of users through interview. Based on the results of survey analysis, this research proposes the index of “activity diversity”, “activity mixed degree” and “activity distribution uniformity” to quantify activities’ characteristics. Meanwhile, through “level of diffusion”, “level of connectivity” and “architectural layout”, it analyses the characteristics of the open spatial composition, relationship between different spatial layout and activity characteristics in order to provide references for future design.
