Abstract:Traditional urban design relies on the comprehensive judgment of architects based on site environment, regulations and guidelines and their own experience. With the development of digital city, sources of digital information related to cities, such as network maps, social media, ubiquitous devices and mobile operators, have increased dramatically, providing objective data basis in a wider space-time dimension. How to discriminate, obtain, analyze and use the digital information to guide urban design has become an urgent topic. With urban renewal projects, this paper explores and compares three different paradigms: data evidence-based, case retrieval and learning based generation, and their different forms in the design process.
