Abstract:Space is the core of modern architecture. From the 1940s to the 1950s, based on the modern space thought in the world and Chinese cultural tradition, a group of Chinese architects both home and abroad started with the elements of “space” and “floating space” that constituted modern architecture, carried out a series of Chinese explorations of theoretical construction and design practice. This study analyzes the representative theoretical construction and design practice based on the historical background, and takes three early Chinese students of Gropius, Huang Zuoshen, Ieoh Ming Pei, Dahong Wang, and other relevant Taiwan and overseas Chinese architects such as King Chang-ming and Amos Ih Tiao Chang for example, to sort out and summarize the origin, path and characteristics of the Sinicization of early modern architectural space thought, and complement the overall picture of the modern development of Chinese architecture.
