Abstract:This study discusses the embodied experience of architectural space when the virtual and material spaces interact through the role of cognition with the case of the Louvre-Lens Museum. Based on the understanding of perception and action from embodied cognition, namely the “4E” approach (embodied, extended, embedded, and enacted), the paper argues that a new layer of virtual environment not only provides a way to access more information, but also expands the ways of bodily interaction between inhabitants and architecture. In addition to purely responsive behaviours, these new hybrid environments enact a more active environment-initiated behaviours, adding the dimension of bodily reciprocity to the space and information.
