Abstract：Responding to the shifting from case paradigm, type paradigm to pedigree paradigm in the study of architectural diversity, and using the theory of Four Elements of Architecture by Semper, this paper examines seven ethnic groups’log dwellings in Northwestern Yunnan. Based on construction logic, it establishes a pedigree of their forms and interprets the inner mechanism of the architectural elements’evolution. Through the interpretation of the diversity of log dwellings in northwestern Yunnan, this paper provides theoretical support for the conservation of the vernacular architectural heritage in this area.
