Abstract:The walkability is a comprehensive index that measures and evaluates the extent to which the built environment supports and encourages walking. However, there is not any localized walkability measurement that has been developed and applied in China. This study therefore summarizes the methods of walkability measurement and uses Tencent Street View to establish a new macro-level and micro-level measurement method. Through linear regression analysis, it explores the relationship between the walkability measured results of different spatial analysis units and the actual walking characteristics of residents to determine its effectiveness. Finally, according to the validity results of the new walkability measurement method, this study measures the walkability of built environment in Dalian. The results shows that it is higher in the central regions and decreases from the center to the periphery in Dalian.
