Abstract:Perceived density is not only a way to interpret the physical space but also a key indicator to express the experience of the space. The interest in the subject grows with the increase of the physical density in built environment. According to the analysis of the WOS data through CiteSpace, the research on perceived density has experienced three characteristic periods and involved a hidden separation between the different categories of disciplines: the research typically of psychology and sociology from the perspective of population density and the environmental and urban studies, or the architectural research in the broad sense, from the perspective of space. The existence of the separation entails the holistic framework that is the integration of the separated perspectives and the promotion of the research with the support of new technology towards totalization, quantification, visualization, and inclusion of dynamic perception.
