Abstract：With the case of Nanbuting historical and cultural district renovation project in Nanjing, this study tries to sort out the relationship between urban historical context, spatial fabric and traditional architectural design. Through summing up the history and problems of the transformation, it summarizes the connotation and strategy of the transformation of historical street block. Also, with the specific design of the transformation, it explains the relationship
between the spatial layout of modern architecture and the traditional style and the way of construction. It is intended to develop the way and method of the protection of urban historic districts that are suitable for the current urban development.
