Application of Oral History Method in the Study of Overseas Research of Architects in the Early Stage of Reform and Opening-up: The Interview with Architect Ma Guoxin
Abstract：In the late 1970s, the easing of the external environment and the proposal of the internal Reform and Opening-up policy provided opportunity for elite Chinese architects who were selected by the state or work units to go abroad and study in developed countries. However, this history is difficult to be replicated. Ma Guoxin was a representative architect in this respect. With the method of oral history, the architect himself was interviewed to reproduce his research experience from such aspects as preparation before research, the process of research in Japan, and the comparison between Chinese and foreign thinking. It points out that the use of oral history method can restore history, directly present the growth process of architects, connect the development process of architectural history, and enrich the relevant research on architects.
