Abstract:To cope with the typical water-sensitive problems and complex challenges of existing buildings in waterfront spaces, this study puts forward four strategies for water-sensitive design of existing buildings: multilevel water-sensitive circle-layer design; water-sensitive interface regulation; water-sensitive quasi-nature plant community design; and three-dimensional model of habitat structure. Based on the proposed technical framework, the study takes the Hanfeng Lake Education Center in Kaizhou District, Chongqing as an example to complete the water-sensitive building renovation and evaluate its ecological benefits. The current research has shown that the water-sensitive landscape intervention can sustainably provide ecosystem services such as storm water management, landscape amenities, biodiversity conservation, source-sink manipulation, etc., which eventually becomes a life landmark of the area studied. This research can provide a scientific basis and reference application paradigm for the water-sensitive design and ecological development of high-density urban waterfront area.
