The Influence of the Architectural Style of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum on the New Buildings in Luojiashan Campus of National Wuhan University and the Role of Francis Henry Kales and Poy Gum Lee in the Planning and Design
Abstract:There was affinity between the campus overall planning and the design of the phase-one buildings of National Wuhan University from 1929 to 1930 and the design and construction of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum. Francis Henry Kales, the American architect of Luojiashan Campus, once competed for the design of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum. Chinese American architect Poy Gum Lee, who was in charge of the subsequent design of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum after Y. C. Lu’s death, participated in the early design of the new buildings of National Wuhan University, bringing to Luojiashan Campus some design concepts and architectural style of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum. The planning and design of Luojiashan Campus by F. H. Kales and P. G. Lee reflected the significant impact of the architectural style of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum.
