Abstract：In order to alleviate the realistic social problems of high house price and high rent in China, this study explores how to develop unused and inconvenient space in residential buildings. The “three conceptions” and “three highs” housing design strategies are put forward, that is, walnut idea, Bogujia idea, container idea, and human height, object height, room height. Through intensive and refined design of three-dimensional and even four-dimensional space, and under the condition of 3.6 meters storey height, the “middle building” is made. It can make full, reasonable, efficient and convenient use of every bit of space in the house, thereby exchanging space for area, and greatly increasing the usable area. It is intended to create a “small, complete, refined, flexible” new residential space organization model – a new housing product.
