Abstract：The importation of modern building system transformed Chinese architecture. But before then, some modern materials and techniques, such as glass, prevailed in China, and resulted in changes in Chinese traditional buildings. These changes focused on the inner adjustment within the Chinese building system. This article looks at the main hall of the residential part in He Garden of Yangzhou, and discusses the changes of a traditional Chinese hall caused by the importation of glass. Beyond the material needs, the transition of ideas was presented in the changes, and the reason of change lied in the idea of the master of He Garden.
