Abstract:In this study, air pollution at two residential areas in Xuhui District and Minhang District of Shanghai was monitored using a portable personal aerosol monitor. The study finds that the distribution of PM2.5 in the neighborhood is closely related to the regional sources of pollution. But in the central city, PM2.5 is primarily affected by traffic emission, while in suburban areas is more related to the background concentration and other sources. At the same time, different building layout and wind environment also cause local accumulation and dispersion of pollutants within the neighborhood. Therefore, in view of the diffusion conditions and spatiotemporal distribution of air pollutants, local pollution sources and micro climatic conditions as well as the building and street layout should be considered in neighborhood-scale urban planning and design.
