Abstract：From the point of view of urban growth ability, the three level index system of growth strength, growth potential, growth foundation and growth environment is constructed. Entropy method, grey correlation coefficient method and comprehensive evaluation model are used to evaluate the comprehensive growth capacity level of 31 cities in the urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of Yangtze River. Based on the results of the cluster analysis of the growth capacity, it finds that the urban agglomeration is of a“cross”axis belt type space development situation, and further analyzes the spatial development pattern of the three sub-regions. Finally, it puts forward different promotion strategies of growth capacity.
