Abstract:Railway heritage is characterized by linearity, comprehensiveness, and radiation, and it has a profound impact on urban regeneration. The Government Architect NSW (GANSW) has played a significant role in revitalizing Australia’s railway heritage. GANSW was formerly responsible for designing major government-owned public buildings, most of which have become city landmarks. However, since 2016, its role has shifted to design management. The study analyses GANSW and its comprehensive“Better Placed”design policy, explaining its architectural design and design management at three levels: museum’s renewal, open spaces, and the local green grid. The study notes that“Better Placed”and related policy frameworks are important for promoting case studies and good design in a coherent manner. They not only serve as references for China to create better places but also provide new ideas for expanding the professional field of architects.
