Abstract：For research and planning of ancient town conservation, it is needed to grasp the picturesque stage which could reflect the settlement characteristics, find the logic that generates them, and make the implicit logic visible through design, in order to provide references for the planning, and organize the conservation and renovation of the picturesque stages. Illustrated by the case of Zhiying ancient town and its ancestral temple clusters, this article puts forward the importance of narrative characteristic of traditional settlement and the interaction between it and picturesque staging, and intends to provide a scientific and reasonable way for conservation and renovation of ancient town.
