Abstract:Started with the public critique of the newly unveiled skyscraper design in Vals, the article tries to discuss the differences and similarities of the definition and professional practice of Urban Design between Mainland China and Switzerland. By comparing two buildings in Haldenstein, Chur, the article analyses how architecture can react to and interact with its environment and urban context in respect of architectural design on material, form finding, semiotics and space, etc.
