Abstract：The discussions on details have lasted for more than twenty years in China, and its theoretical peak originates from the theory of tectonics in the West. The theoretical discourses on details in the journals of the past twenty years do not cover the special practice in China partly because of its intercultural source. The social demands on the quality and performance of building play a more important role in the development of details in China. The frequent changes in building materials, techniques and the construction modes bring those demands to light. As such, the demand of modern Chinese construction situation on details is the real impetus for the theoretical discussion on details in China.
