Abstract：Due to the lack of corresponding theory and practice, the current rapid development of rural construction often ignores the regional characteristics, suitability, and ecology, etc. and destroys the unique rural culture. In view of this, this paper studies rural residences, in which the courtyard space is identified as its basic unit of living space. With the application of the prototype theory and method, cyto-architecture theory, passive design strategy, and topology morphology principles, and based on multi-dimensional perspectives and the low-carbon orientation, the construction system and design method of the “basic rural unit” are put forward with functional structure, prototype menu, chamber space and multipla interfaces, in order to explore an effective way for the current rural construction in China.
