Abstract:Quiet facade is an important concept of soundscape. Its basic idea is that the noise annoyance of residents will be greatly reduced if the house has a quiet facade, even though there is considerable outdoor noise. After years of research achievements in Europe, quiet facade has been reflected in the “EU Noise Directive” (2002), which is introduced into the relevant building codes by many countries as an important indicator, and is practiced in architectural design. This paper introduces the formation process and application scope of quiet facade, and the newest European research, evaluates the possibility and effectiveness of the implementation in order to provide guidance for architectural and planning design in China.
