The Design and Repair of the Modern “Chinese Style Roof” Architectural Heritage: A Case Study on the Office Building of Zhongshan Botanical Garden in Nanjing
Abstract：In the practice of modern local architectural construction, how to build traditional “Chinese style roof” through Western advanced technology became a hot issue. Due to the collision between Chinese and Western culture and technology, some common damage problems emerged in the form-oriented “Chinese style roof” architectural heritage. This paper looks at the office building of Zhongshan Botanical Garden in Nanjing built in the 1950s, points out the collision between the translation of typical forms and the integration of Chinese and Western construction technologies from the perspective of current damage analysis, and puts forward the way of repair and reinforcement through “minimum intervention”, which will provide a more profound cognitive basis and reference direction for the conservation of “Chinese style roof” architectural heritage.
