Abstract：In an interview with architect Meng Fanhao, Meng maintained that in rural practice, field survey, communications with local villagers and quality buildings are all of crucial importance. Architects should manage well with the balance between cost and quality, and the relationship between modernity and locality, and make it clear their own responsibilities and standpoints, whilst putting self-expression behind social responsibility and actual user demand.
