Abstract:The exhibition of “The Other South” is a unit in the 2017 UABB. In this essay, the author, as the curator of the exhibition, explains the concept of “The Other South”, and introduces how the exhibition is organized around the concept. “The Other South” is referred to as the cultural identity different with the “South” in natural geography. In Chinese history, it is often addressed by the “North” which has been a political center in a very long period. In contemporary situations, the spatial structure of “center” and “edge” is transferring from geographical division to complicated and dynamic space networks. On the other hand, the character of place is often displaced by a sense of placelessness. In this context, the meaning of the “South” should be reflected for architecture.
