Tangqiao Community Inspiration: Community Place-Making Design Studio’s Social Engagement Process and Relevant Thinking in the Context of Social Transformation of China
Abstract：This article is a general introduction of the Walking Shanghai Community Microregeneration Tangqiao Community social engagement and also an elucidation of its social engagement process framework under the background of the rising of community empowerment and transformation of architectural education in the emergence of civic society and inventory planning social context. A series of alternative critical procedures have been explored by the workshop, including participant observation and guide, design of social engagement process, tools and scene and relevant spatial practice, which actually are very important to disciplinary autonomy. Furthermore, from anthropological and sociological perspectives, embeddedness of agent network is also needed to practice design with both human scale and urban design scale. This discussion is dedicated to provide some suggestions to contemporary people-based place making and governing, urban regeneration, and also transformation of architectural education.
