Abstract:Operable building skins can adjust environment parameters based on the dynamic control of operable components on the building surface, so as to adapt to the changing outside environment and create a comfortable indoor environment. Through this the buildings can better adapt to the climate and become more sustainable. A variety of examples from Solar Decathlon houses are analyzed. The operable building skins are sorted into five categories based on their adjustable factors: wind environment control, thermal environment control, lighting environment control, solar environment control, and comprehensive control. This research could provide a reference for the design and application of operable building skins.
