Abstract:This paper analyses forms and spatial characteristics of folk dwellings of traditional villages in Central Shanxi. It also interprets the adaptable adjustment and development of micro scale human settlements, in order to sum up the impact factors and changing patterns. Firstly, it examines forms types, space layouts and transformation of folk dwellings. Then, it makes some case studies on function, axis, spatial hierarchy and so forth, focusing on diachronic changes and spatial replacement. Finally, with comparative analysis of multiple cases, it proposes three changing patterns. It concludes that forms of folk dwellings and changing patterns together make the main spaces, supporting the development of traditional villages.
