Abstract:In recent years, with the increasing number of cultural-type buildings related to “local memory and homesickness”, how to arouse the city’s “common cultural memory and identity” from an interdisciplinary perspective and the perspective of protecting historical heritage and local knowledge, is gradually becoming a new issue of contemporary architectural design in China. Movie 1942 was a cross-border cooperation between film scene design, cultural relics restoration and architecture. It was a “memory rebuilding” journey on the city scale. The design concept was centered on “seeking, awakening and presenting of urban memory”, starting with the five elements including urban form memory, urban spatial memory, architectural memory, landscape memory, and symbolic event memory.
Using organizational methods such as “spatial narrative and node reproduction, restoration, and collage”, the project enabled “memory” to be revived and reborn in the real material space.
