Abstract:The contemporary society comprises a variety of cultural forms, and they intermingle with each other and create small cultural dimensions, where the cultural carrier of the sub-society has its characteristic on space peculiarity, territoriality and combination. However, it has been partly changed with its spatial structure, public cognition and place identity in the process of urban renewal. Based on a case study of Beijing Niujie Street of Hui community, this paper studies the characteristics of Hui public spatial structures and elements of their own ethnic behavior. It quantitatively explores the public cognition of Niujie community public space with investigation and content analysis, correlatively analyzes the cognitive elements from each space, and tries to reveal the present cognition of Hui community, a public space of sub-society culture from different communities.
